When Does Practice Begin? When And Where Are Practices?
We will have our first Boys Lacrosse Practice (all teams) on Sunday, August 22 at J.P. Moseley Park (Football Field #1) from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. We will have a brief parent meeting at the end of this first practice session to review our plans for the season and to answer any additional questions you may have at that time. New players do not need to be fully-equipped by the first practice – Coach Jeremy will be on-site with our “Gear Bank” to help new players get some or all of the equipment they need for the season (see “What is the Gear Bank?” below). After this first practice, our Boys Teams will practice on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at J.P. Moseley. We may schedule additional practices during the first few weeks of the season to help our teams prepare for their first games (we are still working on our schedule for the fall – our target date for the first game is currently September 10th – though we may have scrimmage opportunities prior to this date). We will advise parents as soon as we know more.
Girls Lacrosse Sessions will begin the week after Labor Day. We are currently looking to have practices on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at J.P. Moseley Park (Football Field #1). This could change to Monday and Thursday nights (same time/place) depending on coach/player availability. We will tentatively host a parent meeting on September 1 at 6:00 p.m. at J.P. Moseley to review our plans for the fall and answer any additional questions you may have (also to give you time to prepare before our first official practice after Labor Day (either September 7 or 8 depending on Wednesday/Thursday night decision). We will provide more details for registered girls/parents the week of August 29.
When Are Games?
Boys Lacrosse Games are typically on Saturday mornings or early afternoons (would be either/or in most cases). We self-schedule games against regional opponents. Each team hosts different weekends and we will typically play multiple games each week (for example, we may play a 10am and 12pm game). Most of our games will be AWAY and will require travel in the Metro Atlanta Area. We will also work to host 1-2 home dates against opponents (where we host games). Games are sometimes scheduled on Sunday afternoons due to opponent field scheduling issues/team availability and/or rainout rescheduling. We will try to avoid Sunday scheduling, but if a game does show up on the schedule for Sunday afternoon, it will be because it was the only option available to get the additional game scheduled. We will plan to have our schedule complete by the first week in September. Please see the “What is the GameChanger App?” below for related information on parent communication and our practice/game schedule updates.
Our Girls Lacrosse group is focused on skills development sessions for the fall to start the season. Depending on registration, our coaches will explore additional opportunities for our girls – either inter-squad contests, hybrid practices/scrimmages with other programs, or actual scrimmages/games (if we have a full team at an age group or are able to combine ages for a mixed-age team). We will communicate our intentions and any updates to the schedule once registration is complete and we are able to start reaching out to other programs. Please see the “What is the GameChanger App?” below for related information on parent communication and our practice/game schedule updates.
Where Is The GameChanger App?
Henry Youth Lacrosse uses the free GameChanger App to communicate with parents. We will add players to rosters for each team/group, along with coach contact information, once registration is complete. We will also add our practice schedule and any other events (scrimmages, games, additional practices, etc.) via the schedule function of the app. We will use the email address you registered with (and you will have the ability to add additional parent contacts once you download and setup the app). Please visit https://www.gc.com from your mobile device to download and setup the app (after our first practice for your team). We will work to add all registered players as soon as possible to the app. NOTE: if you used the app for a previous season, we recommend deleting the app and reinstalling a new version. This will be an easier option to find the current season for your team.
Are There Additional Costs?
Uniforms are included as part of Spring registration fees. In the Fall, uniforms are NOT included. Players requiring a uniform may order one for $65 (you will be provided with an opportunity to select this option during the registration process).
Players are required to have a valid USA Lacrosse Membership ($30 annually), which can be purchased during the registration process (this is required for insurance purposes). You only have to pay this fee annually. If your child participates in any other HYL program throughout the year, you will not need to pay this again (e.g. spring, clinics, camps, etc.).
Equipment is not included in registration. Coaches will advise new parents/players on equipment options, including used or discounted equipment as well as where to get the best prices on new equipment.
What Equipment Is Required?
Boys are required to wear a helmet, mouthguard, shoulder pads, arm guards, gloves, athletic cup, and cleats (lacrosse is a contact sport, though contact is limited at the youth level). Players are also required to have a lacrosse stick. Don’t be overwhelmed by equipment costs, HYL has several options to significantly reduce the cost of equipping your child for play. Please also do NOT purchase equipment until speaking with your coach, as they will be able to help you avoid purchasing the wrong equipment.
Girls are required to wear lacrosse goggles, mouth guards, and cleats. Girls should also have their own girls lacrosse stick. Coaches will advise parents/players on what to get at the first meeting/practice of the season.
Where Should We Get Equipment?
Henry Youth Lacrosse has a limited inventory of donated (used) and pre-purchased (discounted) equipment available on a first come, first served basis. Coach Jeremy will bring our “Gear Bank” to the first practice of the season for players to try on equipment. If players find used equipment that fits, they can have those items for FREE! All we ask is that you donate your used equipment if your child outgrows it or no longer plays lacrosse. For our pre-purchased (discounted) equipment, we sell these items at cost. These items will typically be between 30% and 80% less than typical retail prices. HYL also has program discounts with StringKing (a manufacturer of lacrosse equipment – 20% discount) and Play-It-Again Sports in Fayetteville, GA (typically 25% if you mention the Henry Youth Lacrosse discount). Coach Jeremy can add you to our discount portal for StringKing if you plan to purchase a stick or other equipment from them (HYL recommends StringKing Jr. and Intermediate “Complete Sticks” for our boys lacrosse players). Our girls lacrosse coaches will advise parents on what to purchase at their first meeting of the season.
Are Discounts Available?
HYL provides registration discounts for families registering multiple players in the same household. We also offer discounts for our volunteer coaches. Finally, we do offer needs-based discounts for families who cannot afford the total costs required to participate in youth lacrosse. Our goal is to make lacrosse accessible for all children in our community. If you need assistance, please contact Jeremy Porter at 404.641.9023 or email@example.com.
Can I Sponsor HYL?
Yes! Sponsors help us to grow the game in so many ways in our community. They also help us reduce the cost of participation for our families. If you would like to learn more about our sponsorship options or would like to make a donation, please let us know. We’re also happy to share additional information on the various projects and programs we are managing in our community – supported by the generous sponsorships and donations we receive. Henry Youth Lacrosse is a GA-based non-profit corporation and 501(c)(3) charitable organization (your donations are tax-deductible).
Can I Volunteer to Help?
Yes! We can always use volunteers to help us run our program. We also have a coaching program for parents who are interested in learning more about the game and learning how to teach the game to our next generation of players. Please contact us if you would like additional information on our current volunteering opportunities. We’re also actively looking for assistance on our leadership team – particularly from professionals with non-profit, financial, or general business experience. Please contact Jeremy Porter at 404.641.9023 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
