General FAQs About Henry Youth Lacrosse

What Is Henry Youth Lacrosse?

Henry Youth Lacrosse is a Georgia-based non-profit youth athletics association and 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to increasing youth lacrosse participation in Henry County, Georgia.

Our Mission: Help children learn what lacrosse is, have a chance to try it, and if they like it, provide them with an opportunity to play the game by removing any/all barriers to participation. Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. at all levels of the game, though still very much a new, alternative, or emerging sport in the south. Henry Youth Lacrosse is dedicated to making sure kids have a chance to experience the game while they are young, as they do with more common, popular sports they learn as they are growing up.

Henry Youth Lacrosse supports this mission by providing organized boys and girls teams in the fall and spring for children in grades K-8th. Henry Youth Lacrosse also hosts an annual youth lacrosse summer camp in June, and a variety of beginner clinics and related introductory programs throughout the year.

Who Does Henry Youth Lacrosse Serve?

Henry Youth Lacrosse provides lacrosse programs for boys and girls in grades K-8th who reside in Henry County, Georgia or surrounding areas. Our association believes that lacrosse is a sport to be enjoyed by all, and that all children should have an opportunity to experience the sport while they are young - just as they do with more common sports they learn to play in school or in the backyard as they are growing up. All children and families are welcome and our programs are open to all. As the only recreational youth lacrosse program in Henry County, we are most commonly the starting point for players' lacrosse journeys and we specialize in getting beginners started in the game of lacrosse. Beginners are not only welcome in all our programs, but also encouraged to join us. While we specialize in fundamental skills development for beginners, we also provide developing players with a path to play and reach their full potential in the game for as long as they are with us. We hope that many of our youth players will stick with the game and play for their high school teams, regional club programs, or eventually, for a college team after high school.

How Long Has Henry Youth Lacrosse Been Around?

Henry Youth Lacrosse is an evolution of previous youth lacrosse programs that have existed in Henry County since 2008, when a group of parent volunteers started a recreational lacrosse program to serve the interests of players who had tried the game with the local YMCA. When the local YMCA closed its doors, the recreational youth lacrosse program was born. While the legal structure of the organization has changed over the years, the association continues to build on the strong foundation established by these first volunteers in our community - many of whom continue to be involved or support Henry Youth Lacrosse in its mission to grow the game of lacrosse. The future is bright for lacrosse in Henry County and Henry Youth Lacrosse is proud to be doing its part to continue to grow the game for generations to come.

Why Henry Youth Lacrosse?

A better question is, "Why lacrosse?" And the easiest answer is that once kids try lacrosse, they love it. It is one of the most-exciting sports to play, which is why the sport has continued to grow in popularity in the U.S. for several decades now. Simply put, lacrosse is non-stop action and all players get to be a part of the game. There is a place for every type of athlete on the field, which makes lacrosse a great youth sport, where not all kids have the same athletic strengths. As far as "Why Henry Youth Lacrosse?," our team is dedicated to providing the most positive playing experience for your child. We not only want them to learn the game and enjoy it, but we want them to have great memories of playing lacrosse with their new friends and teammates when they get older. Lacrosse is a special sport, technically the oldest sport in North America, with variations of the game being played by Indigenous Peoples for hundreds of years. When children play lacrosse, they are honoring the game and helping to continue its traditions.
